Eating. Listen to what a survey of girls in 5th through 12th grade discovered. When asked what influenced their idea of how the perfect body should look, 47 said they were influenced by pictures of models in magazines. And heres one more thing to think about. You know those kinds of perfect bodies you see on runways and in advertising . Well, according to the experts, only about 5 of us naturally look like that. Or, put another way, 95 of us, the overwhelming majority, dont look like the models we see. And that has some teens taking drastic measures that can lead to what medical experts call eating disorders. To talk more about this is dr. Megan jones. Shes a psychologist from stanford university. Theyre not alone. Most of us have been pushed around by a bully. Up until 6th grade, i was just like, i love school. Thats when some of ronnies friends decided it wasnt cool to be smart. They started making fun of him for raising his hand in class. At lunch, kids would be like, oh, were not sitting with you, like, nerd ronnie stopped participating in class, and his grades fell from as to bs. I was trying to kind of do poorly on purpose, i guess. But it didnt help. Kids still picked on him. I think everybody thinks that they have this image of, like, one big, tough kid just beating up a little kid or stealing his lunch money or something, but its a lot more than that. Bullying has many faces and many forms. Michael cassidy wrote the skinny on bullying.
