Two Arrested After Armed Robbery in Thickwood, Police Searching For Third Suspect

By Jaryn Vecchio Two people are being charged for allegedly taking part in an armed robbery in Thickwood. On March 31, Wood Buffalo RCMP were called to a business near the intersection of Signal Road and Thickwood Drive after multiple individuals entered and demanded money. A weapon was reportedly used with two employees receiving minor injuries that didn’t require any medical attention. The individuals ended up leaving in a vehicle with an undisclosed amount of money. Shortly after, the Mounties were able to locate two individuals with help from police dog services. They ended up arresting 39-year-old Jaclyn Louise Johnsen, from Leduc, and 27-year-old Edmonton resident Alfred Richard Kamara.

Province Opening Large-Scale Vaccination Site In MacDonald Island Park

Starting on April 5, a clinic will be up and running at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre curling rink at MacDonald Island Park. “MacDonald Island is, in many ways, the heart of our community. Convenient and safe access to COVID-19 vaccines is key to the health and well-being of residents, and the social and economic recovery of our communities,” said Mayor Don Scott. “By using a larger facility with better parking, more people will be able to access their shots faster and safer. This is a logical step in the right direction.”

March Mullets Campaign Raises Over $26K For Mental Health Supports

The annual March Mullets campaign was able to raise over $26,000 which will be used to advance youth mental health programming within the organization’s recovery college. Over 20 people took part which included a two-year-old, two women, and even a dog. Speaking on Fort McMurray Matters, Emma Jones, CMHA Marketing and Community Relations Manager, noted the campaign also helped start a conversation. “There is still that stigma associated, we feel maybe a little uncomfortable about sharing our feelings, men and women, but definitely men have that pressure from society still.”

Transit Seeing Changes For Easter Weekend, Curbside Pickup Remaining The Same

Routes 11, 12, 15, 16, and 99 will be the only ones in operation for Good Friday. Easter Sunday will operate with the regular Sunday schedule. Detours affecting 18 and 91 are also continuing as preparation for river breakup continues downtown. Complete schedules for each route can be found on the RMWB’s website. Meanwhile, there will be no changes to curbside collection or the landfill’s hours of operation.
