FREEPORT, Maine, May 14, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Outdoor brand L.L.Bean announced today plans to continue investing in a range of organizations and initiatives focused on supporting local communities and increasing outdoor access for all. The new partners are comprised of national and local organizations who not only embody the purpose of the outdoor company – which is to ensure the wellbeing of others through time spent outside – but who also engage and support diverse communities. With nearly $30 million committed over the past decade, this year s contributions total $6 million and will be directed to initiate first-of-its kind programming for several new organizations.

The Ecology School will receive a $500,000 charitable gift from L.L.Bean Inc. to support three major components of the school’s $14.1 million River Bend Farm campus in Saco.
The gift is one of the largest charitable contributions ever received by the school.
The funding will support construction of a new arrival plaza, a new waterfront area for recreation and environmental education on the Saco River, and a three-year sponsorship of the new River Bend Farm Family Camp.
The gift marks the retailer’s largest charitable contribution to a Maine nonprofit thus far in 2021 and the third-largest gift the company has bestowed to date in 2021.

Middle school students donate items to shelter
Students at Middle School of the Kennebunks recently collected thousands of items for York County Shelter Programs. The project, organized by the seventh-grade Sebago Team, promoted community service among students, who gave 2,334 pairs of socks and 387 bottles of shampoo and conditioner in one of the largest donations ever received by the nonprofit from a school.
“I am so proud of our grade 7 Sebago students and staff for their efforts on this project,” said MSK Principal Marty Bouchard. “Awareness of the needs within our communities and world are a part of our curriculum at MSK, and the kindness and selflessness shown by these students is truly inspiring.”

A nonprofit tree-planting group based in Auburn and Sandwich, N.H., has received a TD Bank grant to plant an orchard at the Ecology School’s new River Bend Farm campus in Saco.
TD Bank selected ReTreeUS to receive a 2021 TD Tree Days grant.
ReTreeUS has planted orchards at over 50 Maine school since 2012, according to its website.
TD Tree Days is a community-based program created in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, which expands urban forests and green spaces in low- to moderate-income neighborhoods, according to a news release.
ReTreeUS staff, Ecology School staff and community volunteers will use the money to plant 30 fruit trees and 20 native fruit and nut shrubs at the school’s campus on May 7 and May 8.
