Leong: Jason Kenney needs to have a long chat … with himself

Article content Now would be a great time for Premier Jason Kenney to ask: What would Jason Kenney do? The version of himself from four or five years ago, that is. Leong: Tiki torches need to be snuffed out

Article content Pretending a problem doesn’t exist doesn’t make it go away. This concept is apparently foreign to the Edmonton police, whose social media team put out a rather tepid, nothing-to-see-here statement on Feb. 20 just hours after what was ostensibly billed as a demonstration against COVID-19 public health orders. Article content We must remember it might still be possible for people to be contagious even after large segments of the population have received their COVID-19 immunization. The purpose of the vaccines currently under study or in production is to prevent severe illness and deaths due to COVID-19. They weren’t designed to prevent onward spread, although there is a possibility some of the shots might. And we must consider the possibility of vaccine effectiveness diminishing as the new coronavirus itself evolves and adapts over time. In many parts of the world, it is expected newer, more-contagious COVID-19 variants will become the dominant strains as soon as next month.
