We must remember it might still be possible for people to be contagious even after large segments of the population have received their COVID-19 immunization.
The purpose of the vaccines currently under study or in production is to prevent severe illness and deaths due to COVID-19. They weren’t designed to prevent onward spread, although there is a possibility some of the shots might.
And we must consider the possibility of vaccine effectiveness diminishing as the new coronavirus itself evolves and adapts over time.
In many parts of the world, it is expected newer, more-contagious COVID-19 variants will become the dominant strains as soon as next month.
