Was driving for a Ride Hailing Service like uber or lift said he hit something on southbound 101 but continued on to drop off his passenger. He eventually called 911 and met the chp at the San Francisco hall of justice. The body was found on the shoulder of southbound 101. All southbound lanes were shut down for a time, but a couple reopened at 4 30 this morning. Theyre now up to three lanes open. No word on the identity of the body or if the driver could face charges. This at roughly 9 30 this morning. We had a subsequent call from a nearby resident who explained that she saw smoke and heard an explosion. When we got on scene, we were able to rather quickly extinguished the fire. We needed to extinguish the insulation that was burning surrounding the breaker. We were able to successfully do that with the dry chemical agent. Businesses in the area had to close early and send some staff home. Traffic lights were knocked out for hours and 300 lights were down. Reports came in people stuck in elevators without air conditioning. Those caught in the bart train system had nervous moments. It was pretty chaotic. Very crowded. I have a minor handicap in a bad leg. People were very kind and getting out of the way making room. Thank goodness one of the escalators was working for a change. Firemen and it has burned down the hill before, but i lived here 20 years and that is the furthest its ever come down. Reporter total personnel, 61 from vacaville, travis, fairfield, dixon and cal fire. The fire started near i80 so it may have been caused perhaps by a car, but firefighters are not speculating at this hour.
