Well today is mario woods Remembrance Day in San Francisco. A bit of a controversial day. A vigil is being held at Cornerstone Baptist Church on third street for the suspect killed by police. You could see balloons and pictures fill the area where San Francisco police had shot and killed woods in december. He had a knife and police had said that he was walking towards officers with it. The San Francisco board of supervisors unanimously passed the mario woods day of remembrance back in january. But it has not been without critique. The resolution angered Law Enforcement officers and Police Officers associations. He said that he has seen positive changes within the police force recently. Theyre going through retraining, to be more sensitive to things. So there is some reform happening now. The supervisors wisely seen this day as a day fitting to celebrate his life and also to say to ourselves and to the world, never again would a priceless life be taken from us without us remembering and recognizing and appreciating that life. The San Francisco police union said it chose this day because haywa Hayward Police sergeant was killed a year ago today. They held a moment of silence for the sergeant and all others who have died in the line of duty. We chose this profession because we care. This is a calling to all of us. Norman ye and the Police Captain denise clarity took what they call the Public Safety walk along the ocean avenue corridor where they met with store owners and residents. Supervisor ye said his constituents really appreciated this opportunity. It was very, very thankful that were getting this done. It is just showing that we care about this audience. This is a corridor that is doesnt get a whole lot of attention. Bilingual staffers and officers took part in the safety walk. Ye said that is important in the neighborhood where more than a third of the residents are not english speakers. Tonight human error is being blamed for accidently dumping almost 1 million gallons of partially treated sewage water into the San Francisco bay. An employee turned the wrong valve at the Wastewater Treatment sending 950,000 gallons of sewage into the bay. The accident did not cause harm to Public Health or the environment because most of the pollutents had been removed from the water before it reached the bay. State park officials have voted to rename the popular North Bay Park in skroanta rosa honor of a local business leader. He is credited with saving the parks 5,000 acres from development in the 1970s. He pitched in 100,000 to keep it running when dozens of parks were threatened with closure. He died last year at the age of 94. State park policies discourage changing park names and it has only happened twice in the past 13 years. So this is rare.
