He eventually called 911 and met the chp at the San Francisco hall of justice. The body was found on the shoulder of southbound 101. All southbound lanes were shut down for a time, but a couple reopened at 4 30 this morning. Theyre now up to three lanes open. No word on the identity of the body or if the driver could face charges. Were told the victims son is okay. On to developing news in San Francisco. Police are looking for a suspect who stabbed a store employee on market street. It all started shortly after 7 00 last night at nicks foods. Police say a clerk tried stopping the suspect from shoplifting and the pen pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim who is expected to survive. Investigators are now looking through Surveillance Video. A terrifying incident in San Francisco. An apparent stranger takes someones baby and got on a muni bus. Abc 7 new was there when Police Caught and arrested the suspect. Heres reporter melanie woodrow. Within 30 minutes of getting a call for the kidnapping of his baby girl, police were patting down and cuffing a 36yearold suspect. Everybody got involved. This was a big deal. Just before 9 00 a. M. On sherman street, police say a 6monthold was inside this vehicle while her father prepared a bottle for her a short distance away. Thats when police say this woman snatched the baby and boarded a muni bus. Think she saw an opportunity and she took the baby. Police alerted sfmta. Our operators are trained to respond to emergency siterations like these, and these operators did just that. When the first bus stopped, the woman got off and boarded another. No. The babys mother rushed to the scene where officers consoled her as she was reunited with her child before being taken to the hospital for an evaluation. A driver faces accusations of drunk driving and car theft after several people got hurt in a headon crash in eastern contra costa county. Highway patrol investigators say the driver of a stolen car was going the wrong way on westbound 4 when he hit the minivan. Eight people got hurt, including two small kids. The suspected drink driver is now in jail after being released from the hospital. A wildfire threatened several homes in antioch, and youre looking at cell phone video of smoke looming over a row of houses near highway 4. People first reported the fire at 6 30 last night and you can see how big the flames were next to the freeway. Crews had the fire contained a little more than 40 minutes after it started. It burned about 30 acres. Governor brown has issued a emergency proclamation for Santa Barbara county. It will make response and Recovery Funding available. The larger of the two fires, the whittier fire, started nine days ago. Its destroyed 16 residences and 30 structures. I was told by the chp that this is an elderly man who was hit and killed here on southbound 101 just past the oyster point boulevard onramp to the freeway here. And we are told that the coroner is here and theyre taking away the body, so all lanes will be open. The onramp will be open as well. The chp also told me new information, correcting an inaccuracy from earlier. The driver was just giving a friend a ride. He was not working for a Ride Hailing Service. He hit something on southbound 101 but continued on to drop off his passenger in millbrae, turn back to the scene, unsure if he hid a pedestrian or animal. He didnt find anything and eventually called 911 just before 3 15 this morning. That was 45 minutes after the chp says he hit the person. He ended up meeting the chp at the hall of justice in San Francisco. Body was eventually found on the righthand shoulder of southbound 101 in San Francisco. Alcohol or drugs were not a factor for the driver. But they are Still Deciding whether or not charges will be filed against the driver and whether or not theyll make an arrest. New this morning, bartd police have arrested three teens suspected of punching a person and trying to take their cell phone. B. A. R. T. Police say it happened on the platform level and trains did have to stop running for about half an hour while officers made the arrests. The three have been taken to juvenile hall. Happening now, firefighters battling 13 wildfires across california hope cooler weather over the next few days is going to give them a boost. A red flag warning issued by the National Weather service expired last night at 9 00. Firefighters are concerned anything could spark a wildfire. Ventura county, a car went off the highway in simi valley and sparked a fast moving wildfire. It started moving up a hillside toward homes. Air tankers called in quickly to douse the flames. Firefighters in san jose are investigating what caused a car fire on sierra road that quickly spread to nearby brush. It was spotted around 4 00 yesterday morning. Two acres burned before crews got the fire under control. Investigators dont know if the car caught fire before the fire started or if it was left there after. People living in lake county are feeling the impact of a wildfire that just broke out yesterday. But it is miles away. The grade fire in Mendocino County broke out around 3 00 p. M. Yesterday. Within hours, lake county dispatch was getting calls about smoke. Its burned 1,000 acres near highway 101 and 20. Its just 10 contained this morning. Work finally begins to repair this yearold sinkhole that is breaking the bank in one bay area town. Drivers in moraga have faced delays and detours at Center Street and marine boulevard since the sinkhole opened up last year. Repairs had to wait until caltrans signed off on the plans. Part of that job includes replacing an eightfoot culvert under the busy intersection. Moraga has already spent millions on the sinkhole and its forced town leaders to declare a fiscal maerngs. Two lanes of marine boulevard will be closed until october. Nudevelopments about the victims caught in a deadly flash flooding at a popular arizona swimming spot. Nine people died and they were all members of the same family there to celebrate a birthday. A woman caught the frightening scene on her phone. Witnesses say dozens of swimmers had to hold on to whatever they could to stay alive. Four people were rescued and flown to hospitals to be treated for hypothermia. I have been with the Sheriffs Office 13 years and this is the worst flash flood accident weve had. When it rains up here, it really pours. Not only that, it knocks down trees. At least one man is still missing this morning. That same area and across arizona remains under extreme weather threats with new flash flood watches in effect through tonight. The u. S. Coast guard has released video of a water rescue in the bay off east palo alto. A child and two adults were brought to shore after their boat capsized saturday night. This shows a coast guard rescuer swimming to the boat to tend to the victims. One of them giving a thumbs up to his rescuers after being brought to shore. A kayaker credited with helping the victims in the water by letting them hang on to his kayak while he called 911. All three were wearing life jackets and no word on what caused the boat to capsize. Poll results that President Trump and his supporters may not like. The city of oakland is facing a new controversy as a report shows 80 of firefighters warnings about unsafe buildings have gone unchecked for years. According to our media partner, the bay area news group, firefighters have flagged 879 properties for potential safety risks since 2011. Inspectors have not visited 615 of those sites for followup checks. Oaklands fire chief is blaming a lack of staff. These rechbilations follow last years deadly ghost ship fire that killed 36 people. The warehouse had been illegally converted into living spaces. Oaklands city council is talking about new proposals to ease regulations for marijuana growers. They want to sell vacant Oakland Properties to marijuana operators. She also wants to change zoning codes to make it easier to get permits. The city council will meet tomorrow. The state legislature is set to vote on extending californias controversial cap and trade law that puts a limit on Carbon Emissions and requires polluters to obtain expensive permits to release greenhouse gases. Governor brown says the extension is critical at a time the president is figpulling bac from fighting global warming. We have a major backup, southbound 880, we had overnight road work that was supposed to at least partially wrap between 23rd and 29th here by 5 00 a. M. We were supposed to have at least two lanes open. We could have various lanes closed until 6 00. We got word from caltrans all lanes are closed and we dont have an estimate when well get it open. Were up to four solid miles now, and that is, as the crow flies, curving a little bit, so probably longer than that. 580, wide open on the eastbound side. In fact, trucks are able to use 580 as well since the backup is so terrible. Normally youre not permitted to use that. Teyre making an exception for you.
