The flood situation in Assam continues to remain grim as heavy rainfall and landslides have wreaked havoc. Around four lakh people have been affected and the weather department has warned of very heavy rainfall in the state till Wednesday.
Cyclone Asani is moving northwestwards and it will reach Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts by Monday night. Heavy rains are expected to batter the coastal region.
The Regional Meteorological Centre at Bhubaneswar on Monday informed that the depression over the Bay of Bengal has weakened into a well marked pressure and is likely to further weaken into a low pressure area LPA in the subsequent six hours
Mercury to dip further
Dec 29: The mercury will take a slight dip and create chill in the air in the days to come, predicted the Regional Met office here. The cold wave is expected to continue till this weekend. In the city, there was no overcast sky, but the maximum temperature was recorded at 24.9 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was settled at 10.4 degrees Celsius. The humidity oscillated between 89 per cent and 80 per cent. There was cloud cover in the morning which disappeared by 9 am, making the situation favourable for residents. Agartalites seemed happy with the development, hoping to make the most of the winter. Citizens will brace up for chill as the mercury is expected to plummet by one to two degree Celsius in the coming days. The weatherman has predicted foggy mornings over the next few days.
