Stanford brings underrated pitching duo, speedy offense into series with Arizona State softball Share this story Courtesy of Stanford Athletics Stanford (22-8, 3-3 Pac-12) comes into Tempe for its third conference series of the season. The Cardinal have swept Utah and been swept by Arizona thus far. Jessica Allister’s team has flown under the radar again because of an underrated pitching duo and an offense built on speed. The Pitching Duo Arizona State’s bat aren’t facing another elite pitcher this upcoming weekend. However, Alana Vawter and Regan Krause have been solid for Stanford this season. Similar to the Sun Devils’ Lindsay Lopez and Allison Royalty, Vawter, a sophomore, and Krause, a freshman, are facing the Pac-12 for the first time.

(Photo: JOHN LOZANO/isiphotos.com) on April 5, 2021 Softball (22-8, 3-3 Pac-12) improved every game it played against ninth-ranked Arizona (22-5, 6-2 Pac-12) and yet, even its very best wasn’t quite enough, as it fell to the Wildcats 6-1, 5-3 and 2-0 in the final three games of the series. One of the bright spots was the emergence of freshman Aly Kaneshiro as a designated hitter. Kaneshrio had a batting average of .400 in her limited number of at-bats coming into the weekend, and in this series, her strong hitting continued. The difference this weekend was how she compared to the rest of her teammates. In the first game on Friday, the Cardinal were down 4-0 going into the bottom of the fifth and still hadn’t recorded a hit all series, when Kaneshiro was inserted into the lineup as a pinch hitter. She promptly hit her first career home run, giving Stanford its first hit and first run of the series to make the score 4-1.

Alyssa Denham s no-hitter, Malia Martinez s seven RBI carry Arizona softball to win at Stanford

Alyssa Denham threw a no-hitter and Malia Martinez drove in seven runs on two homers as Arizona softball opened its road series at Stanford with a dominant 9-0 victory Thursday. Denham allowed two baserunners, both via error, in an otherwise flawless five frames to give Arizona (19-5) a run-rule victory. It’s the third no-hitter of Denham’s career and the 95 th in program history. Denham was gifted a big lead before she ever took the mound, courtesy of a first inning grand slam by Martinez. The senior third baseman crushed a two-strike, two-out fastball above the left field bleachers.
