The National Museum of health and medicine was founded in 1862 and known as the Army Medical Museum and the mission was to collect specimens of morbid anatomy and send them to washington to study to improve the care of the soldier. At the time of the civil war the museums staff were doing the business of Lessons Learned. They were trying to understand the nature of Battlefield Medicine, and trauma and share it with their counterparts on the battlefield.
