Suspended BJP leader Dipanjali Kakati after her arrest on Saturday GUWAHATI: Dipanjali Kakati, a BJP leader who was suspended from the party for allegedly assaulting an on-duty a police officer in Tinsukia district last November, was arrested on Saturday from her residence at Dirak Powai in the district. Kakati had assaulted sub-inspector Apurba Das inside Kakopathar Police Station after the police officer refused to set free a culprit who was brought to the police station for questioning. “The incident was recorded in CCTV on the basis of which she has been arrested,” a police officer said. Kakati had been on the run after her pre-arrest bail plea granted initially was cancelled later. The BJP leader has been booked under Section 332 of the Indian Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty.

1,000-km solo bicycle journey to promote NE tourism

STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Assam Sanjay Bahadur will cover a 1,000 km-long solo bicycle journey across the State under a programme organized by the India Tourism, North East. The solo cycle ride, titled as – 1000 Bar Dekho- North East Dekho, will aim to highlight the magnificence of the North East. The 10-day long journey will take place from March 7 to March 17. The ride will begin from Lachit Ghat here on the banks of the Brahmaputra River. Addressing the media, Bahadur said, The Northeastern region is a paradise which is unexplored till now. This solo cycle ride will be a tribute to river Brahmaputra. Our main aim is to showcase the North East for tourism in international level.
