June is pride month, a time to celebrate the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and Trasngender Community and their struggle for equal rights. Organizers chose june as pride month to honor the 1969 stonewall riots in new york city. They were a series of uprisings by the Gay Community against police raids of the stonewall inn, a popular gay bar in greenwich village. The riots are considered the start of the modern gay rights movement. President trump marked pride month this year with a tweet celebrating lgbt rights, becoming the first republican president to acknowledge pride month.
