Oceanside sells El Corazon land for commercial developments

Print The Oceanside City Council agreed this week to sell two vacant parcels of commercial land within the city’s El Corazon Park to Sudberry Development, Inc., as the sites for a 268-unit apartment complex and a 7,500-seat indoor sports arena. The San Diego Sockers, a professional soccer team that now plays its home games at San Diego’s Pechanga Arena, plans to make the Oceanside arena its new home. The team announced Thursday it will hold a groundbreaking ceremony May 20 at the site on Conner Way, just off El Corazon Drive and Rancho Del Oro Drive. Called Arena Califino, the venue also will host concerts, conventions and other large events.

Permits approved for Oceanside s indoor sports arena

OCEANSIDE    Permits were approved this week for a nearly 8,000-seat indoor arena to host concerts, San Diego Sockers games and other sports events at Oceanside’s sprawling El Corazon Park. Negotiations with the park’s developer, Sudberry Properties, remain underway, and construction of the proposed Arena Califino depends on whether the Oceanside City Council can work out details such as property rights and revenue sharing. “It’s a good outcome,” said Oceanside Planning Commission Chair Tom Rosales, after the commission approved a development plan and a conditional-use permit, and made some recommendations to staffers and the City Council. “I think this is going to be a good project for everybody.”

Committee OK s plans for indoor arena at El Corazon Park in Oceanside

Plans to build an indoor sports and entertainment arena with nearly 8,000 seats at Oceanside’s sprawling El Corazon Park got a thumbs-up from a key oversight committee last week. The El Corazon Standing Committee agreed unanimously to forward plans for the 171,291-square-foot Arena Calfino, possibly the future home of the San Diego Sockers professional soccer team, to the city’s Planning Commission for approval. The multipurpose building would have room to seat up to 6,367 people for sporting events and as many as 7,992 seats for concerts. The arena would be on a 5.24-acre parcel, with 618 parking spaces on a separate 7.2-acre parcel.
