The Oceanside City Council agreed this week to sell two vacant parcels of commercial land within the city’s El Corazon Park to Sudberry Development, Inc., as the sites for a 268-unit apartment complex and a 7,500-seat indoor sports arena.
The San Diego Sockers, a professional soccer team that now plays its home games at San Diego’s Pechanga Arena, plans to make the Oceanside arena its new home.
The team announced Thursday it will hold a groundbreaking ceremony May 20 at the site on Conner Way, just off El Corazon Drive and Rancho Del Oro Drive. Called Arena Califino, the venue also will host concerts, conventions and other large events.
