From cbs news bay area, this is the afternoon edition. Flames burn up an east bay hillside this afternoon and we may have a clue as to how this fire started. Plus an inside look at cal fires newest tool to fight nighttime fires. Good afternoon. Im elizabeth cook. Lets get right to that fire in hayward. Anne makovec is following it all for us. Another reminder fire season is here, that brushfire was burning off harder road near west view way in hayward just west of the cal state east bay campus and near dozens of homes on the south side of the city. Our chopper got to the scene quickly and we have some pictures. This is what it looked like moment after that fire broke out. This is around 1 30 this afternoon. You can see the flames on the hillside there. The thick smoke is rising in the air and this is fire crews working to get a handle on those flames, Quick Response there luckily and they just surrounded the burn zone, spraying water along it to stop the fire before it spreads any furt
