Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid in the early hours of Monday announced that after the first round of talks with the recently proscribed Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), 11 policemen who were taken hostage in Lahore have been released. Talks have started with the TLP. The first round went well and the second round will take place after sehri, Rashid said in a video message. They have released 11 policemen who were made hostages and have gone into the Rehmatul Lil Alameen Mosque [Yateem Khana Chowk]. The police have also stepped back.

ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Sunday ruled out talks between the government and the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) as the group took a number of law enforcement personnel hostage in Lahore amid clashes.
Speaking to reporters, Rashid ruled out negotiations with the TLP and said most of Lahore’s motorways, the main thoroughfare Grand Trunk road, and linking highways were open for traffic, but revealed there were 192 areas where he said the group had gathered.
Rashid also said the “situation is a bit tense” in the vicinity of the TLP’s madrassa, where their headquarters is located in Lahore.

The Punjab government and proscribed organisation Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan s (TLP) second round of talks concluded on Monday, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said a few hours after the first round of negotiations were held earlier during the day.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed had announced that 11 policemen, who were taken hostage in Lahore by the banned party, had been released after negotiations carried out by the Punjab government.
In a video statement, the interior minister had said the “first round of talks” concluded in a successful manner after which the policemen were released and the protesters had gone inside the Masjid Rehmatulil Alameen.

Workers of outlawed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) on Sunday stormed a police station near the party’s headquarters in Lahore and abducted half a dozen policemen including a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), in a fresh wave of violence sparked after arrest of the party chief last week.
“Today in the early morning, miscreants attacked Nawankot Police Station where Rangers and police officers were trapped inside the police station and [the] DSP Nawankot [Mohammad Umer Farooq was] kidnapped and taken [to] the [TLP] markaz, said a brief statement issued by the provincial police.
