Assam MLA Shiladitya Dev, who gave his resignation to the BJP earlier this week after he was denied a ticket to contest the assembly election, has returned to the party fold as the BJP said he will continue to remain in the party as an important member .

GUWAHATI: Shiladitya Dev, who in the past five years placed himself as a champion of Bengali-speaking Hindu in the Brahmaputra valley, is BJP’s new golden boy in Assam. After being a denied ticket, leading to his resignation from the party, Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with a national general secretary, heaped praises on Dev at his Hojai constituency home, saying that he will get his due position after the government is formed.
Dev, 52, has an RSS background, and won his first election in 2016 from the Hojai constituency, which is also AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal’s native place. Surprisingly, he was dropped from BJP’s list of candidates, triggering protests within RSS and resigned from the party.

Guwahati, March 13 : Two days after quitting the party, a BJP MLA in Assam on Friday announced to campaign for the saffron party while another legislator submitted nomination as an independent candidate.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party so far this time denied party tickets to 10 sitting legislators and a Minister Sum Ronghang.
Assam BJP MLA Shiladitya Dev has been with the BJP for the last three decades.

Assam BJP MLA Shiladitya Dev has given his resignation to the party after he was denied a ticket to contest the election this time. Mr Dev said he will contest as an independent.
Mr Dev alleged he was not given a party ticket since he had been vocal about the issues of Hindu refugees, problems in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and delay in framing rules for the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA.
The BJP MLA from Hojai, who is among the BJP 12 MLAs denied tickets this time, told NDTV that time will decide if people are with BJP or not.
