The old name of New Delhi's ceremonial boulevard Rajpath has been scraped off the signages mounted around the periphery of the India Gate hexagon, after its rechristening to 'Kartavya Path'.
Many people questioned the decision after the government's attempts to remove "symbols of slavery" by rechristening Rajpath and unveiling a new naval ensign inspired by Chhatrapati Shivaji.
Is it possible to disentangle the personal attributes of a gentle and kindly woman, from her role as the crowned head of a declining global empire that waged numerous wars? Many don’t think so.
The central idea is to keep the pot boiling – keeping the masses distracted – and to position the Prime Minister as the only man who stands between our civilisational glory and national decline.
