Several regions of South India have been witnessing some rainfall activity in the last couple of days. As the region, does not see a lot of rain during this time it can be called untimely or unseasonal.
Light rains were also received at Coimbatore, Thanjavur, Madurai and state capital Chennai. Very light rains were recorded at Punalur and Varkala in Kerala. North Coastal Tamil Nadu and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh are expected to have scattered moderate showers and heavy at some places durind this period.
Northeast Monsoon rains consist of rains that occur between the months of October and December, also known as post Monsoon rains. Overall, Northeast Monsoon ended on a normal note and except for the month of November, good rains were seen over the southern parts.
On December 22, rains will once again become light to moderate and recede around December 23. Thereafter, weather will once again start to become dry. Rains may be slightly more on december 20 and 21 with rainfall being moderate and isolated pockets may see heavy showers as well.
While, the circulation persist over Sri Lanka, Gulf of Mannar and extreme South Peninsula on 18th and 19th Dec, coincidentally an easterly wave will move across, overlapping and enhancing the weather activity. Prolonged wet spell for all the 5 sub divisions of northeast monsoon is likely between 18th and 23rd Dec.
