Should Iowans Skip The J&J Vaccine? The Answer is NO
There s more good news for Americans when it comes to the COVID-19 pandemic: a third vaccine will likely be approved this week, or very early next week. This new vaccine, made by Johnson & Johnson, is a one-dose shot that has been found to be safe and effective. However, it s
less effective than it s Pfizer and Moderna counterparts. According to a CNN report, the new Johnson & Johnson vax is 66.9% effective in preventing moderate to severe/critical COVID-19 symptoms after about 14 days of receiving the vaccination. It is 66.1% effective at least 28 days after vaccination is administered.
Funky Junk-A-Loo Has Been Postponed
It s been an interesting year, hasn t it? I feel like Iowans feel optimism. I know I do. COVID-19 numbers are down across our 99 counties. Vaccine number are creeping up. Slower than most would like, but they re trending up. I know I m excited to get jabbed as I feel it s doing my part to protect others.
Unfortunately though, the pandemic has cancelled a slew of events over the past 11 months. Events that we ll maybe get back in some way shape or form, but sadly missed in 2020. One event that COVID has now, in part, impacted in 2021 is Funky Junk-A-Loo. The annual sale of unique and repurposed goods, which was also canceled in 2021, was scheduled for March 20 & 21 at the The Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center.
When you think about hard workers, you naturally think farmers. Or factory workers. maybe plant or processing workers. Certainly front line workers as well, especially in 2020 and 2021. Well, in Iowa we have all of those trades. Especially the farmers and factory workers. So, maybe you re surprised like I am to learn that according to a new study done by WalletHub, only one Iowa city is in their annual list of hardest working cities. Now in fairness, it ranked very high. But still,

According to the study,
Des Moines, our capital, ranks #48 on the study. In case you re wondering, the study explored the top 116 hardest working cities, so it s cool to have one in the top 50. But still, only one? The study gets its results based on 11 work factors. These include:
