I guess today, January 20, is National Cheese Lover s Day (that s gouda news for all of cheese fans). Naturally, that means someone took some data, plugged in some number somewhere and figured out what each state s favorite cheese is. Actually, to be exact, the people at Zippia used Google Trends and examined just under 20 popular kinds of cheese. The results?

Outside of Iowa, Queso Blanco appears to be top dog as it s enjoyed by 8 different states, which is more than the other cheeses in the study. Cream cheese is next with six states picking it. Swiss cheese took top prize in four states and our choice, Velveeta, was #1 in four states. Brie, Cotija and American also scored some top spots in the study.

Waterloo Icon and World War II Vet Marcia Courbat Has Died
Marcia Courbat, a Waterloo icon and World War II veteran has passed away at age 98 according to Hagarty Waychoff Grarup Funeral Group. Courbat passed away on Saturday, January 16 at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital.
KWWL reports that during World War II, Courbat served in the Army Medical Corps. After the war she worked at A&P Grocery Store and John Deere in Waterloo. She retried in 1983, and was a life-time member of American Legion Post 138 in Waterloo. In addition, Courbat was a founding member of the Women’s Army Corps Veterans Association #98 and was also the founder of the Military Walk of Fame at Waterloo Memorial Hall.
New Study: Iowans Are Most Chilled People in America
Apparently the folks at SWNS Digital aren t familiar with winter. Or flooding. Or derechos. Or, other folks have it worse. According to a new study they put out, Iowa is the
least stressed U.S. state. Number two on the list, is Nebraska. Maybe it s a Midwest thing? Let s breakdown the findings.
In 2021, Americans are most stressed about;
Finances/their financial situation 41%
COVID-19 and the ongoing pandemic 355
Politics and current news 29%
Work/their job 215
Social life/personal relationships 19%
Three out of four people also said that 2020 was the most stressful year of their lives. Despite the above stressors, and the rough 2020, Iowa is still the least stressed state in the U.S. Aside from Nebraska being the second least stressed, the other low stress states are all bunched up in a tie:
Last month Hy-Vee rolled out rapid antigen COVID-19 tests to some of their locations around the Midwest. The only location in the Cedar Valley to offer them was the Cedar Falls location on University Ave. Now Hy-Vee is expanding the rapid test offering to include rapid antibody tests.
