Waterloo Schools Sticking with Mask Mandate
Gov. Reynolds eased off on Iowa s mask mandate last week as COVID-19 numbers in the state have declined. Also removed, limits on gathering and restrictions on businesses. When it comes to Waterloo Public Schools, they will not be easing up on mask wearing any time soon.

In a press release, Tara Thomas, Director of School & Community Relations stated:
Our current health and safety protocols AND our mask requirement will remain in effect through the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.

Seven Cedar Falls Businesses Fined for Selling Tobacco to Minors
The Cedar Falls police have completed a compliance check on 40 city businesses in a joint effort with the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division to insure tobacco products were not being sold to minors. According to a press release, seven businesses were reported to have violations:
Bani’s, 2128 College St, Cedar Falls.
Casey s, 601 Main St, Cedar Falls.
Prime Mart, 2323 Main Street, Cedar Falls.
The Landmark, 107 Main St, Cedar Falls.
Casey s, 2425 Center Street, Cedar Falls.
Prime Mart, 2728 Center Street, Cedar Falls.
Metro Mart, 103 Franklin St, Cedar Falls.
The compliance check is performed under the supervision of law enforcement. A customer who is underage is sent in to the business, and will attempt to purchase tobacco, alternative nicotine, or vapor products. Do you blame yourself, the city, or the police if your car gets towed during a snow emergency? Well, the Waterloo police department wants to make it clear: a snow emergency was issued and, if you got towed in Waterloo, it s not their fault. On its official Facebook page, the Waterloo Police Department stated,
If your vehicle was towed because of the Snow Emergency and you have an issue please do not contact the Police Department you may contact the Waterloo Street Department at 319-291-4267.
It is hard to argue, the snow emergency was issued yesterday afternoon and members of the local media, including this station, passed the info along. Most of the comments on the post were positive and Facebook users seemed to appreciate the work being done by those tasked with cleaning city streets.
Waterloo Declares Snow Emergency through Tuesday Afternoon
As we prepare for more snow in the Cedar Valley, the City of Waterloo is preparing too. The city has declared a
Snow Emergency set to begin tonight, January 25th at 7 pm, and run though Tuesday January 26th at 3 pm.
During this time, snow routes are in effect and residents are encouraged to move cars off streets to allow snow removal crews to clear city streets and improve snowy roads.
Waterloo residents and people who work in Waterloo are reminded that trucks spread salt and sand. It s vital to maintain a safe distance of at least 50 feet from snowplows. Please be courteous and allow our crews to do their work safely.
