COLLEGE PARK, Md. (Purdue Sports) Purdue baseball scored in the first inning for the first time since April 19, but Maryland s three solo home runs helped power the Terrapins to a 6-1 victory in game 2 of the series Saturday.
Maryland (23-14) led 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth when Chris Alleyne, Ben Cowles and Bobby Zmarzlak all hit solo home runs over the span of five batters on the third time through the lineup. Those were the only earned runs Trent Johnson allowed over six innings, accounting for his fourth quality start of the season. The senior did not walk a batter for the second time this year and the fourth time as a Boilermaker in which he pitched at least four innings

The day was highlighted by a career-high 11 strikeouts in Sydney Bates complete-game victory in Game One and three home runs (Kiara Dillon, Rachel Becker and Kaitlyn Brannstrom) between the two games.

MADISON, Wis. (Purdue Sports) Despite a late push by the Boilermakers which saw five hits in the final two innings, the Purdue softball team (15-26) fell 5-0 to Wisconsin (18-19) at Goodman Softball Complex. The winning run was recorded in the third inning by the Badgers.
Purdue registered 8 hits in the outing. Five came within the final two innings, and despite loading the bases in the sixth, the Wisconsin defense held firm. Kasey Wilhoit produced the team s lone double while Becca Jones and Sydney Bates led the day with two hits apiece.
