Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], May 4 (ANI): Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu on Tuesday said that the coronavirus infection has started to spread to the rural areas because of which the positivity rate and the number of deaths are increasing in the state.
Speaking to ANI, Sidhu said: The situation of Punjab is similar to the country. The positivity rate and the number of deaths are increasing in the state. People from Delhi, Haryana and other states are shifting to Punjab and this is the main reason for a surge in cases in the state.

The Punjab government on Monday imposed daily lockdown and weekend lockdown owing to the surge in COVID-19 cases. As per the new order, a daily lockdown will continue from 6 pm to 5 am till further notice. Meanwhile, a weekend lockdown will be in force from Friday 6 pm to Monday 5 am.
Earlier, the night curfew restrictions were from 8 pm to 5 am.
Punjab Chief Minister Captain (retired) Amarinder Singh on Monday took to Twitter to announce the news.

LUDHIANA: In the wake of a sharp increase in demand for oxygen for the Covid-19 patients in the hospitals across Ludhiana district in Punjab, deputy commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Saturday set up an oxygen audit committee.
Sharma said that the 11-member committee has been tasked to review the consumption and balance stock of the oxygen by the hospitals and other health institutions.
Further, it will ensure that the use of oxygen for the management of serious Covid-19 patients is rational and per prescribed treatment protocols.
The fresh restrictions will come into effect from Tuesday, officials said, adding that curfew timings will now be from 8pm to 5am, instead of the earlier 9pm to 5am. ANI FILE
CHANDIGARH: As Covid cases continue to rise rapidly in the state, Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh on Monday ordered stricter restrictions beginning Tuesday.
The restrictions include extension of night curfew timings (8pm to 5am), closure of all bars, cinema halls, gyms, spas, coaching centres, sports complexes, with restaurants and hotels to be open only for takeaway and home delivery from Monday to Saturday.
Rates for RT-PCR and Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) by private labs have been reduced to Rs 450 and Rs 300 respectively (with additional charges for home collection of the samples), in a bid to promote increased testing.
