Poll panel officials were responding to queries on slow updates of results. Deputy Election Commissioner Sudip Jain said there was excessive load on the servers but the counting was on. EC Secretary General Umesh Sinha said the counting was going on smoothly , and that the load on servers cannot affect the counting of votes on the ground anyway. The counting is on and results are being declared, while website is getting updated later, Jain explained. Jain also said EVMS have once again proved that it remains tamper-proof . He said barring a few incidents which were a result of lapses on part of the officials, no other major issue surfaced with regard to the electronic voting machines.

The Election Commission on Sunday told political parties that its ban on victory processions during and after counting of votes is being flouted, and asked them to restrain their workers from violating Covid-19 guidelines. The EC wrote to the heads of recognised parties about its instructions being ignored, amid reports of party workers holding celebrations in states where counting of votes is underway. It has been brought to the notice of the Commission that even after the directions and advisories already issued by the Commission to ban victory celebrations during counting day until the period of model code, at some locations in some states, the victory celebrations are being carried out today by the party workers and representatives in contravention of the Commission s directions, the poll panel said in its letter.
The Congress on Sunday said it has lost elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry and West Bengal but has not lost its morale or resolve to continue to be people s voice in these tough times.
