USDA Sets CRP Application Deadline as July 23, 2021
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has set a July 23, 2021, deadline for producers and landowners to apply for General CRP. This year, USDA updated both General and Continuous CRP options to provide greater incentives for producers and increase its conservation benefits, including reducing the impacts of climate change.
CRP is a federally-funded voluntary program that contracts with agricultural producers so that environmentally sensitive agricultural land is not farmed, but instead devoted to conservation benefits. CRP participants establish long-term, resource-conserving plant species, such as approved grasses, forbs, or trees to control soil erosion, improve water quality and develop wildlife habitat. In return, the Farm Services Agency (FSA) provides participants with annual rental payments and cost-share assistance for practice establishment. Contract duration is between 10 and 15 years.
