A revolt ten black and white years in the making

The political turmoil around the Collingwood Football Club continues to build. Jeff Browne has declared his intention to become president. In response, the club issued a strong statement rebuking him – good on them for coming out hard. It’s the first bit of genuine character this administration has shown. Unfortunately, though, scattered throughout the statement […]

Political uncertainty and a lack of vision at Collingwood

Political uncertainty and a lack of vision at Collingwood A Set the default text size A Set large text size Replay A Set the default text size A Set large text size Well, by now everybody knows about Collingwood’s political uncertainty. Mark Korda is the incumbent. Jeff Browne would seem to be the challenger. 40-year member David Hatley is spearheading a petition that will trigger an EGM and spill the board. The last time I recall such a thing happening was in 1982, when the New Magpies challenged the Collingwood board. The incumbents were traditionalists. Their purse strings were tight. The New Magpies wanted to spend big, recruit big and haul the club into the new age to compete with clubs recruiting heavily to buy success.

An open letter to Eddie McGuire

An open letter to Eddie McGuire A Set the default text size A Set large text size Replay A Set the default text size A Set large text size Dear Eddie, You came to Collingwood when the club was on its knees – just ten years after their historical drought-breaking 1990 flag, the club was now a wooden spooner, struggling financially, and rudderless. Despite losing a swath of experienced champions over 2007–09, Collingwood made the preliminary final in 2009, and won the flag in 2010.

Given Collingwood’s terrible start to the 2021 home-and-away season, we’ve seen some in the media – such as Gerard Whateley and Kane Cornes – now revisit Collingwood’s 2020 trade debacle, almost like they’re only now putting two (the trade debacle) and two (Collingwood’s current list) together to work out the equation (2+2=5) sucks.

It s time for a reset at the Pies - for the club and for the fans

Only this week, I have found a way to be a little less furious. Time will tell if I can hold back on just launching baseless accusations in anger after a loss. The first six rounds of this year as a Pies fan have been full of anger and disappointment. I have written with either fire in my belly or a knife in my heart.
