Reports are out saying that due to COVID outbreaks amongst faculty and students at Port Barre High and Middle schools, those campuses will be moving to remote learning starting on Thursday, August 26th.

UPDATE: Lockdown Lifted At Port Barre Schools The lockdown on schools in Port Barre has now been lifted according to a law enforcement official. ORIGINAL STORY: According to a KPEL law enforcement source, the schools located in Port Barre have been placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. A student at one of the schools told administrators that he heard a man, as he was walking to school this morning, make threats against the school. Officials with the school system are discussing whether or not they will be dismissing students as law enforcement continues their search for this man.

Amazon Future Engineer program coming to 2 additional St. Landry Parish schools

Students from Port Barre Middle School and North Central High School will be participating in the Amazon Future Engineer (AFE) Program. This program is a comprehensive childhood-to-career program to inspire, educate, and train children and young adults from underserved schools and communities to pursue careers in computer science. Amazon Future Engineer offers qualified middle schools access to exploratory computer science classes through Project STEM. On Thursday, it was announced that Arnaudville Middle School had been selected to participate in the AFE program. Click here to read the story.
