do you think you have a better understanding of him, now that you have written this book? i should note, for people, the book does not start with inauguration day on 2017. it goes back to his family, his roots, his father, fred, who, no offense, sounds like an awful dad to have. do you think you understand him better now, having plunged into his background more for this book? i think there are parts of him that i understand better than before, but the goal had always been, because i come from new york, and i have covered new york politics, and aspects of new york s various systems for a long time, i think the goal had always been to try to show the animating forces. which i understood before, about the world he came from, and what has shaped him, and how he exported that to washington d. c., to the white house, and to the republican party. it lives on in our politics. it was understanding, previously, that i have a richer understanding of certain aspects it s a fantasti
function but just take a step back and think about what we were seeing. not one of the people we mentioned was the commander-in-chief? i mean, your people out there that kept saying these words at the instigation of the presiden of the united states. and i kept thinking what secret service? are they implying they were als against the officers, that they knew the information and didn t do anything about it? do they want to see this happen? and why would that be? i don t think secret service failed, i don t think was a pai of intelligence, isaac was a failure of planning they are calling christopher miller secretary of defense. it s not like he s sitting at the pentagon with soldiers and uniform by the way, soldiers are there to fight royals not t do policing actions. the national guard had that r role. there is a failure on many places here. listen, that tape is just absolutely mind-boggling. this generates a committee, the could have just played that and sat back and not said anythin

been inherently racist and that is to keep african-american people in the ghettos, to keep african-american people controlled. and that s why you have so many cops in these neighborhoods and that s why you have techniques like stop and frisk policing in new york city here in 2011, more than 865,000 mainly young black and latino men were stopped by the nypd. you re a longtime resident of los angeles. you re very aware of the rodney king riots. we have the advent of smartphone cameras. we have more transparency in terms of what s happening with policing actions. what is the next breakthrough?
