A first in 34 years, Surajkund mela cancelled
For the first time since it became an annual ritual 34 years ago, the Surajkund mela, the fortnight-long spectacle of handicrafts that brings together artisans from various states, has been cancelled because of the pandemic, leaving a gaping hole in February culture calendar. While the Haryana government will review the situation in April, the decision has left artisans, who were looking forward to an opportunity to turn in profits after a very difficult year, disappointed.

New Delhi: Delhi borders, where farmers have been protesting against the Centre’s three recently enacted farms laws, have been closed for vehicular movement, the Delhi Traffic Police announced on Thursday morning, advising commuters to take diverted or alternate routes.
The strengthened security measures at the agitation sites across the borders come after the violence during the Republic Day tractor parade by protesting farmers

New Delhi [India], February 2 (ANI): The Delhi Police diverted vehicular traffic at Akshardham and Nizammudin Khatta towards Anand Vihar, Chilla, Delhi-Noida Direct (DND) flyway, Apsara, Bhopra, and Loni borders on Tuesday due to the farmers agitation at the Ghazipur (Delhi-Uttar Pradesh) border. Traffic from Singhu, Saboli, Piau Maniyari borders has also been closed.
The police have advised avoiding Outer Ring Road, GTK road, and NH44.
National Highway (NH) 24, NH 9, Road Number 56, 57 A, Kondli, Paper market, Telco T point, EDM Mall are closed for vehicular traffic.

Multi-layered security has been stepped up with the deployment of extra personnel and strengthening of barricades near the farmers’ protest sites at Delhi’s borders, and thereby turning them into fortresses.
Besides additional deployment of forces, the Delhi Police have cemented nails near barricades at Ghazipur (Delhi-Ghaziabad) and Tikri (Delhi-Rohtak) borders. Police have also heavily barricaded the Ghazipur border. Barbed wire and cement barricades have been planted on the roads to restrict the movement of farmers.
