The public will have a chance to ask a question and hear from the finalists vying to be the next Columbus police chief.
An online public forum will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, and will be streamed on the city s Facebook and YouTube pages, as well as aired on CTV.
The city plans to announce on Monday the finalists, who will be invited to participate in the public forum.
Questions for the candidates can be submitted in advance of the forum by emailing policechiefsearch@columbus.gov. Questions can also be asked during the online forum.
Robin Davis, communications director for Mayor Andrew J. Ginther, told The Dispatch Tuesday that interviews are being conducted this week with nine people from among 34 applications who applied for the position.
Ginther has said he hopes to have a police chief named by the end of May. Michael Woods continues to serve as interim chief on a supplemental contract after his retirement in April. He replaced former Chief Thomas Quinlan, who was asked to step down in late January.
Davis said interviews are being conducted this week by Ralph Andersen and Associates, the search firm hired by the city to conduct the chief search; Director of Public Safety Ned Pettus, city Human Resources director Nikki Brandon, Chief of Staff Ken PaulDeputy Chiefs of Staff Kate Pishotti and Kathy Owens, as well as Willard McIntosh, a member of the Civilian Review Board and retired Columbus police officer.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Ohio’s capital city has narrowed the list of candidates for the job of police chief to nine, all of them from outside the agency as promised by the Columbus mayor.
City officials, including Public Safety Director Ned Pettus Jr., were interviewing candidates this week with the goal of a selection by month’s end. A public forum introducing three to four finalists is scheduled for May 19.
Mayor Andrew Ginther, a Democrat, has repeatedly said an outside candidate is needed to enact broad cultural changes within the agency. The city has also created a first-ever assistant chief post to allow the next chief to bring his or her own team.

City officials will interview its first group of nine candidates who have applied to be the next Columbus Police Chief.
The candidates include law enforcement officials from Detroit, Fort Myers, Dallas, Seattle and Philadelphia among others. The group also includes Perry Tarrant, who was a finalist for the post in 2019. None of the candidates selected for an interview have served within Columbus police force.
During the last search, Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther looked outside the division for the first time and this time around he s signaled he s committed to hiring from outside the department.

Last month, 10TV reported 34 applied for the job. The city says nine of those applicants will be interviewed:
Elaine Bryant – Deputy Chief, Detroit Police Department
Robert Clark – Senior Superintendent at Trinidad & Tobago Police Service & Adjunct Professor
Derrick Diggs – Chief of Police, Fort Myers Police Department
