11:19 AM MYT IPOH: The police have arrested four men and seized some 340kg worth of ketum leaves near a house in Sungai Durian near Teluk Intan. Perak Tengah OCPD Supt Barudin Wariso said the police raided the premises on Friday (Feb 5) at about 10.30pm after receiving a tip-off. Supt Barudin said the four men are in their 20s and added that the leaves are worth about RM3,500 and were found inside a three-tonne shipping lorry. There were 68 black plastic bags containing the unprocessed leaves. We believe the leaves were to be sold in the Klang Valley, he said in a statement.

PETALING JAYA: Two areas in Perak – Felcra Nasaruddin and Felda Bersia – have been placed under an enhanced movement control order after recording significant hikes in Covid-19 cases, said Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. According to the Senior Minister (Defence), the decision came after Felcra Nasaruddin in Perak Tengah recorded 28 positive cases and 45 individuals were put under mandatory home quarantine. Upon advice and a risk assessment by the Health Ministry, the special meeting (of the government s Covid-19 committee) has agreed to enforce the enhanced MCO at Felcra Nasaruddin beginning Feb 3 to 16, he said at his daily briefing on Tuesday (Feb 2). Similarly, Felda Bersia will be placed under the enhanced MCO for the same period after it recorded 20 positive cases from 51 Covid-19 screenings.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 2,490 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 130,152.
