National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Rekha Sharma has stated that children born out of non-marital relationships must not be called illegitimate and that children cannot be denied dignity and equality, even if they are born to sex workers. She addressed a seminar organised by the NCW that focused on the various challenges faced by sex workers and their children. The seminar provided a platform for NGOs to discuss the legal, health and educational issues that sex workers and their families experience, and initiatives were discussed on how to rescue and rehabilitate these women.
