Lee County Health Department to hold immunization clinic

Fort Madison, IA- The Lee County Health Department will host a children's immunization clinic Thursday, August 25th, from 1 PM until 4:30 PM at the Lee County Health Department, #3 John Bennet Drive, in Fort Madison. The Pen City Current reports that the clinic is open to children who have no insurance, are insured by Iowa Medicaid, or who have private health insurance which does not cover the cost of vaccines. Cigarette believed to be the cause of a Fort Madison Fire

Fort Madison, IA- Firefighters in Fort Madison battled a house fire on Tuesday, August 16th, which is believed to have been caused by a cigarette. The Pen City Current reports that the fire at 215 Avenue G in Fort Madison was caused by an occupant falling asleep while holding a lit cigarette. Fire crews were on scene from about 5 AM until 9 AM Tuesday. Fort Madison Police and Lee County EMS also responded to the scene. No injuries were reported.

Fort Madison area boy hospitalized after incident at pool

Fort Madison, IA- A Fort Madison area boy was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa city following an incident at the Fort Madison pool. The Pen City Current reports that emergency crews responded to the pool at about 2:15 PM Saturday when the boy was being pulled from the pool by an adult. Lifeguards and a nurse at the scene administered CPR and resuscitated the boy. Fort Madison YMCA Executive Director Ryan Wilson said the boy was being evaluated for possible side effects from the incident, and is doing well. Wilson also thanked the bystanders for their quick reaction to the incident, which helped save the boy's life.

Lee County Deputies pull stranded family off Mississippi River

Fort Madison, IA- The Lee County Sheriff's Office used the department's new rescue boat to help a stranded family. The Pen City Current reports that at about 10:45 PM Thursday, July 21st, LeeComm was contacted about a family on a pontoon boat floating south on the Mississippi River. After multiple attempts by the Montrose Police Department to find boats to assist in the search for the stranded boaters, the Lee County Sheriff's Office was contacted to assist. The Department launched its new Rescue Boat at the Montrose Harbor and the stranded boaters were brought back to shore shortly after.
