Police arrest suspect in Keokuk shootings

Keokuk, IA- Keokuk police have made an arrest in connection with multiple shootings that took place in Keokuk last week. The Pen City Current reports that authorities executed a search warrant at a residence in the 3100 block of Argyle just before 2 AM Friday. As a result of the warrant, 33-year-old Richard Campbell of Ottumwa was taken into custody on charges of attempted murder, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, going armed with intent, possession of a firearm by a felon, and violation of parole. He was held at the Lee County Jail.

Fort Madison Police searching for shooting suspect

May 25, 2021 Fort Madison, Ia-  Authorities are searching for a suspect in connection with a shooting that took place Monday, May 24th in Ivanhoe Park in Fort Madison. Fort Madison Police Chief Mark Rohloff told the Pen City Current that authorities responded to reports of a man being shot in the leg at about 6:50 PM.  The suspect or suspects had fled the scene in a vehicle. A lee County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on the scene and administered first aid to the victim, who was then taken to Fort Madison Community Hospital. Chief Rohloff said that there was a connection between the victim and the shooter and it was not a random attack.  However, he also stated that while the suspect is still at large, it was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

FMHS student arrested after bringing gun to school

April 29, 2021 Fort Madison, Ia-  A Fort Madison High School student was arrested on Wednesday morning after it was discovered they had brought a loaded handgun to school. According to a release on the school’s website, upon learning of the situation, school administrators contacted the police, located the student, and confiscated the weapon. Due to the fact that it was already an early dismissal day, the decision was made to dismiss students early at 12:45 pm. There was no indication any shots were fired, and no injuries were reported. Fort Madison Police Chief Mark Rohloff told the Pen City Current that the 15-year-old male student is in custody at the Southeast Iowa Juvenile Detention Center.
