Double-digit increase in ECC s fall enrollment shows positive post-pandemic trends

Elgin Community College s reported fall enrollment, tabulated on the 10th day of the fall semester, reflects an 11% increase over the previous fall. More than 8,900 students are enrolled for the fall semester, with numbers continuing to increase to more than 9,000 students beyond the 10th day due to later fall start date registrations for 12 and 10-week courses.

Most community colleges in the Chicago area are encouraging not requiring vaccinations, despite guidelines from the Illinois Board of Higher Education urging schools to make COVID-19 shots mandatory. Students at College of DuPage, however, must be vaccinated before in-person or hybrid classes begin next spring.

Thompson Teaching Excellence Award from Elgin Community College. Kaar received the full-time faculty award and Russ received the part-time faculty award.   ECC has the great fortune of having innovative, committed faculty members who are raising the bar for community colleges across the state, said Peggy Heinrich, vice president of teaching, learning, and student development. They bring innovation and a deep commitment to student success to the classroom, ensuring students are prepared to meet the challenges of today s workforce.

Parnell Distinguished Faculty award. One of only 23 recipients nation-wide, the award is recognition for faculty members making a difference in the community college classroom.   Award criteria include demonstrating a passion for the students and the classroom, show a willingness to support students inside and outside of the classroom, be inclined to participate in college committees, and go above and beyond what is required to ensure that students are successful in their academic endeavors.
