rights. i don t want to take away the constitution having to do with gun ownership. we can t let that slope go to easy that we re talking about background checks that all of a sudden we re talking about let s take everybody s gun away. people need weapons, unfortunately, for protection. that s not the only walk-back of the week. just days after the reports the white house designed a payroll tax cut to combat a weakening economy, the president said this. i m not looking at a tax cut now. we don t need it. we have a strong economy. certainly a payroll tax cut president obama did that in or order to artificially jack up the economy. the latest on what we ll call a summer of flip-flops for the president. you may recall in june he changed his tune days after he originally said he would accept campaign help from foreign governments without necessarily mentioning said campaign help to the fbi, also in the month of june he warrant iran an attack on anything american will be met
the president has flirted with the idea of a potential payroll tax cut, even know administration officials said that s not part of the plan. he s looking at other possibilities in terms of slashing tax rates to boost the economy. can he do that without congress? he would need likely approval from congress. and frankly, it contradicts the notion that the economy is doing just fine. even if you look at the delaying of the implementation of those tariffs until december, it was designed it was a move that was designed to protect u.s. consumers around the holiday seasons, because despite what the president had said, prices were projected to rise. he also has given i think billions of dollars in emergency funding to u.s. farmers, because the reality is that the brunt of these tariffs have been born by the u.s. agricultural and manufacturing industries, as well as u.s. consumers. i think ultimately it s hard to overstate just how important the economy is to the president s reelection.
creates all of this anxiety for people. we are hearing in a lot of the focus groups i have done, people are exhausted, right. i think there is a feeling like you said of can we just have calm? can we just, you know, wake up in the morning and not worry. cleveland, ohio. we are buying greenland, we are not. we are going to denmark. we are not. there is going to be a payroll tax cut. there s not. people are nervous. they were already anxious. we saw it with president obama in 2012. even though the economy was strong people were very anxious. they did not know if they can trust it. i think that carried on. certainly the president s behavior does not make you feel more comfortable or confident. yeah. listen, thank you. our time is short because of the breaking news as you understand. who knows what we will be reporting on tomorrow. who knows.
see a recession in the future. that s what larry kudlow said not long ago a few moments ago. in reality the people behind the scenes are paying attention to what these trends are showing. they are worried about it and they re telling the president that, they re being honest with him and he s responding in kind. he knows a lot of his reelection hinges on the economy. that s why you re seeing the president lash out in ways about the economy. yes, i m considering this, and then when one aide shows the president that actually, remember, president obama is someone who instituted that payroll tax cut in 2012, that s something the president then came out against yesterday, citing what president obama did. so they re trying to propose all these different ways to stave this off, and the president is responding in kind saying publicly he s fine with it, but behind the scenes aides are saying that is not the case that s happening inside the west wing. kim collins, appreciate it. perspective now
