Ulverston Victoria High School fundraiser generates £700 in 1994

PUPILS from Ulverston Victoria High School were getting experience of the building trade by visiting Furness College’s technology centre in 1993. College lecturer Pete Sadler was holding open ‘taster’ sessions where pupils could go down to the Channelside campus to try things like bricklaying. In July 1994 Ulverston Victoria High School fundraisers cleaned up £700 in a pram-pushing charity stunt to raise cash for a new minibus fitted with safety belts for pupils. The group of good-hearted school cleaners, helped out by a few friends, donned fancy dress to push their prams around a route which included along part of Ulverston Canal towpath.

Since COVID-19, the weekly need at Jackson s site has increased from 50 to 300 families. “Most of the people have lost their jobs or the hours have been cut. They re down to one income or they have no income at all. Families are moving in together because of loss of work,” Jackson said. Totally scunnered residents relief as Arbroath Travellers camp moves on

Travellers have been moved on from Arbroath land after a ten-day stay behind a former town hospital. Locals said they had been “totally scunnered” by the round-the-clock noise caused by the encampment near the old Little Cairnie site.
