Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin has accused Sinn Féin of “covering their tracks” and “flailing about” after party leader Mary Lou McDonald admitted it was in breach of privacy legislation.
“One gets the sense of flailing about the place, covering their tracks in respect of this issue,” said Martin, adding that “transparency would be the easiest route for them.”
Mcdonald admitted earlier this week that the voters’ database, which is now stored in Germany, was in breach of Irish data protection law. She admitted her party only appointed a data protection officer to oversee the personal data of millions of voters after they were contacted by the Data Protection Commissioner about their secret database.

A referendum on the reunification of Ireland would not happen for a “very long time to come,” UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson told Northern Ireland’s BBC Spotlight programme.
After describing himself as a “proud unionist,” Johnson said he would rather see how the UK can work collectively as a nation to overcome the current challenges faced in Northern Ireland.
The UK government would like to “sandpaper” the Northern Ireland protocol to address issues related to trade disruption, rather than scrap it altogether, he added. The PM also warned of further steps, however, including a threat to invoke Article 16 to temporarily suspend the clause, if the EU persists with strict checks on goods moving between Britain and the North.
