cindy hyde-smith and democrat mike espy. last night in a debate hyde-smith tried to tamp down the criticism but also accused others of twisting her words. for anyone that was offended by my comments, i certainly apologize. i also recognize that this comment was twisted and turned into a weapon to be used against me, a political weapon used for nothing but personal and political gain. joining me now to discuss cnn political commentator and republican strategist kevin madden and commentator and hillary clinton s former campaign manager patty solis doyle. kevin, what do you make of hyde-smith s opinion polling? was it an apology? it was an apology. the problem with apologies,
allegation. i did not kboo do this in high school or any other time. and he s come forward to deny the incident ever occurred. a writer in d.c. told the weekly standard it s absolitly nuts. i never saw brett act that way. is this a realigation or a hail mary trying to dethey are inevitable. should allegations of high school sexual misconduct by judge brett kavanaugh delay his vote? i ll give you the result at the end of the hour. the professor of constitutional law at george washington university. he s an author of democrats bull dezed high ground with kavanaugh letter. thanks so much for being here. let me jews a tweet by patty solis doyle. trrs she said this. a vote for kavanaugh cannot be
with me now, two american people, two political whizes on other sides of the aisle, joining me, patty solis doyle and alice stewart. thank you for coming in on a holiday. you both get bonus points for that in my book. alice, let me happy memorial day. important day to honor those who have given so much. thank you, both. alice, to you. what do you make of giuliani clearly laying out here, this is not just about legally defending the president, this is about how he s viewed in the eyes of the american public. sure, he s clearly engaging in an opening statement of trying to win this argument in a court of public opinion, but in my view, it would be more beneficial to make sure that his client, the president, can make his case in a court of law if necessary. and he is has expressed deep concern about if the president were to testify with mueller, if he would get caught up in a
perjury trap. the best way to not get ensnared in a perjury trap is to tell the truth. this is the route they re going to go. they think it is really important for not only their base, but republicans and many americans to see what they view as a witch-hunt, as a spy gate, and they re going to continue to plead that case. my view, i would recommend the best way to handle this is to continue to do what they say they have been doing. help robert mueller any way with this investigation, provide the necessary documents, provide the information, sit back and let the investigation play out, if they have done nothing wrong, if there is no coordination, no collusion, let the facts lead where they may and let s focus on other things like the summit and the economy and jobs. that would be the best route to go with this. patty, when it comes to how democrats should address this, you know, utilize it, in running for the midterms because as much as this is legal, this is also
their children after being separated because their parents were taken to be prosecuted. 1,500 of the children were separated from their parents. patty solis doyle, what do you think is going on here? it s a tragedy, number one, and it is unspeakably cruel. these parents are coming with their children because they re trying to escape some horror that they re facing in their own country, they re coming to save their kids, they re met with criminal prosecution, their children are being torn away and then we re finding that our government has lost these children. where are the kids? as a mom, i am i mean i just can t think about a child, a 4-year-old in a different country with strangers and now vulnerable to human trafficking, vulnerable to abuse and there is nothing that these parents can do. and so i think the president should use every resource at his
