PETALING JAYA: The country recorded 1,529 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, the lowest since the beginning of the year, says the Health Ministry.
Its director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of active cases was also below 20,000 for the first time in 2021, at 19,778 cases.
Of the new cases, 1,520 were locally transmitted while nine were imported cases. Eight fatalities were recorded, bringing the death toll to 1,177 cases.
Selangor continued to record the most number of cases in the country at 726, he added.
“Of this total, 645 cases were from clusters and from the active Covid-19 close contact screening that is being conducted in the field.
PETALING JAYA: Four new Covid-19 clusters were recorded on Monday (March 8), says the Health Ministry.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said three of the four clusters were linked to the workplace while another was from the community.
Johor recorded two new clusters - Cyber 72 cluster and Jalan i-Park Tiga cluster - while Kuala Lumpur recorded one new cluster, the Jalan Loke Yew cluster.
All three are workplace clusters.
Terengganu recorded one new cluster, known as the Bukit Bayas cluster, which is a community cluster.
The Cyber 72 cluster was detected in Kulai, Johor, where the index case was found to be positive for Covid-19 on March 4 after a symptomatic individual screening.

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry has reported 1,529 fresh Covid-19 cases, a new low for this year.
Daily infections peaked in late January with a record 5,729 cases on Jan 30.
The new cases for today are at the lowest level since Dec 27 last year.
Of the 1,529 new infections today, 1,180 are Malaysians while another 349 are non-citizens.
The number of active cases finally dipped under 20,000, helped by high recoveries of 2,076 cases today. Active cases are down from a peak of 51,783 on Feb 11.
Active cases are a measure of the strain Covid-19 hospitals are facing. The country has enough beds for 34,126 Covid-19 patients in public hospitals and quarantine centres.
