Protesting farmers and tribals, who were on their way to Mumbai from the Nashik district of Maharashtra, called off their long march on Saturday after an assurance from the government to fulfill their demands and execute related orders.
Opposition leader Ajit Pawar has questioned Chief Minister Eknath Shinde over the various works, especially beautification jobs being undertaken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). He alleged that the government was using its power to influence the administrator to get the jobs done in the absence of elected representatives
The march was organised by the CPM and besides farmers, many workers in the unorganised sector, such as ASHA workers, and members of tribal communities participated in it.
