Marching to Loni in Ahmednagar, the home district of state Revenue Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, farmers say, to voice their protest, they have no option but to walk.
The 53 km-long farmers’ march from Akole to Loni was meant to push for their demands related to the implementation of the Forest Rights Act, better compensation for crops, better remuneration for anganwadi workers etc.
The march is being organised by the All India Kisan Sabha and other Left-backed organisations to draw attention to the non-implementation of the Forest Rights Act.
The march was organised by the CPM and besides farmers, many workers in the unorganised sector, such as ASHA workers, and members of tribal communities participated in it.
