(PNA file photo by Oliver Marquez) MANILA - The eastbound portion of North Avenue in Quezon City will soon be closed to traffic and is expected to reopen in June next year to make way for the construction of the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7). In an advisory on Friday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said a portion of North Avenue headed to Elliptical Road will be closed from Oct. 15, 2021 to June 1, 2022. It said motorists entering Wildlife and Veterans Memorial Medical Center can still pass through North Avenue. "Vehicles going Elliptical Road may take Quezon Avenue via Agham Road as an alternative route," the MMDA said. It noted that the closure of part of North Avenue would have "less impact on traffic" as it had been closed to motorists previously. Meanwhile, several other roads in Metro Manila will be temporarily closed or partially passable while the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) conducts road reblocking and repairs ov

San Roque residents denounce demolition threats amid pandemic

(Save San Roque Alliance) Save San Roque Alliance, a group fighting for the community members’ rights, said several community leaders, particularly in the Palochina area, were allegedly being coerced to convince the residents to give up their houses. This is because, the alliance said, a developer will “reportedly create a road from Agham Road leading towards the current establishments in Vertis North as part of the planned Quezon City Central Business District (QCCBD) and will be needing their part of the community to be demolished.” About 142 households, whose sources of income mostly depend on street selling and construction works, would be affected.
