Terming as ”erroneous” the Kerala High Court’s approach, the Supreme Court on Tuesday set aside its verdict suspending the conviction of Lakshadweep Lok Sabha MP Mohammed Faizal in.
The Supreme Court set aside the Kerala high court order that suspended the conviction of Lakshadweep MP PP Mohammed Faizal in an attempted murder case. The Supreme Court directed the high court to reconsider the plea for suspension of sentence within six weeks. The court stated that the high court s decision to suspend the conviction was erroneous and should have considered the gravity of the offense. The Supreme Court also noted that Faizal will continue to be a Lok Sabha MP until the high court reaches a new decision.
The apex court also referred to the part of the high court order which said the disqualification of the accused as an MP will lead to a fresh election and result in enormous expenses
