WHEELING The Muddle will perform live from 7-10 p.m. tonight, Friday, April 30, at Quaker Steak & Lube at The Highlands, then from 7-10 p.m. Saturday at West Sports Bar in Wheeling for a May Day Party.

Wheeling Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors Presents Shake, Raffle & Roll Fundraiser Saturday

WHEELING The Wheeling Symphony Orchestra board of directors will present Shake, Raffle & Roll a reverse raffle fundraiser supporting the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra. The event will be held at The Highlands Event Center at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 1.
The evening will feature a $5,000 grand prize, additional cash and other prizes, heavy hors d’ouevres and desserts and a cash bar. Social-distancing rules will be observed.
This unique evening of cash and other prizes, food, drink and comradery will all be done to support the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra.
Though the Wheeling Symphony has had virtual, televised and streamed concerts during the past year, Shake, Raffle & Roll is the board of directors’ first major fundraising event since the onset of the pandemic in March of 2020. WHEELING Lucky audience members will get the chance to witness an energetic musical production when the Park Players of Wheeling Park High School present their spring musical, “Shrek The Musical,” today through Sunday, April 30 and May 1-2. The play will be held in the high school’s J.B. Chambers Performing Arts Center.
The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. today and Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. It is sure to be an entertaining audience pleaser. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, audience sizes are limited. Additionally, mask-wearing and social distancing with be enforced.
Sultana Disaster To Be Remembered At Next LWB Program

WHEELING The Ohio County Public Library’s Next Lunch With Books live stream program will feature The Sultana Disaster 156 Years Later.
The program will take place virtually at noon on Tuesday, April 27.
The Sultana, a Civil War-era side-wheel steamboat, exploded and burned on the Mississippi River on April 27, 1865. Acknowledged by Congressional Resolution as the greatest maritime disaster in United States history, nearly 1,200 of the more than 2,200 passengers and crew were killed in the explosion and fire which sank the Sultana near Marion, Arkansas, across the river from Memphis, Tennessee.
Designed to carry only 376 passengers plus crew, investigations revealed a litany of corrupt practices, including kickbacks and bribes paid to high-ranking Union officers, caused the overcrowding of the boat.
