Wheeling Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors Presents Shake, Raffle & Roll Fundraiser Saturday

WHEELING The Wheeling Symphony Orchestra board of directors will present Shake, Raffle & Roll a reverse raffle fundraiser supporting the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra. The event will be held at The Highlands Event Center at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 1.
The evening will feature a $5,000 grand prize, additional cash and other prizes, heavy hors d’ouevres and desserts and a cash bar. Social-distancing rules will be observed.
This unique evening of cash and other prizes, food, drink and comradery will all be done to support the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra.
Though the Wheeling Symphony has had virtual, televised and streamed concerts during the past year, Shake, Raffle & Roll is the board of directors’ first major fundraising event since the onset of the pandemic in March of 2020. The Christmas on the Old West Highway event will go forward as planned Saturday after a motion to cancel it failed during Thursday night s Duncan Town Council meeting.
From noon until 8 p.m. families will be visiting local vendors, enjoy a car show, play games and enjoy food. There will also be a light parade, Nativity display and carriage rides.
Vice Mayor Valerie Smith and council member Deborah Mendelsohn expressed grave concerns about the event, citing skyrocketing COVID-19 cases throughout the state and Greenlee County.Â
They pointed out the Arizona Department of Health Services, the Governor s Office and the Greenlee County Health Department have all recommended people limit their social gatherings to small family gatherings to slow the spread of the virus for fear of overwhelming the state s hospitals.
