Good morning. Morgan radford live from new york. Eight days after typhoon haiyan made landfall in the philippines the death toll is rising. More than 4,000 people are confirmed dead. 1,000 others are missing. Survivors are scrambling for food and water. Supplies are being flown in from around the world. Rescue teams are working around the clock to reach areas that have been cutoff by the storm. Distribution centres in places like cebu are overwhelmed with demand. Thats where we find al jazeeras steph. Is relief reaching those cut off by the storm yes, we can talk about a massive relief operation in cebu. A lot of the aircraft came in from over the world bringing relief goods that are desperately needed. The second question, of course, is are the relief goods going there. 100,000 people have gotten Food Assistance by now. More is needed. We have a team of reporters in the philippines, including at the airport, Marga Ortigas on leyte, and Harry Fawcett on bohol. We are at the airport here, its a tiny airstrip but is one of the busiest airports in the world. This is where the typhoon came ashore. To the left, a mile away, a week ago. Now the aid is pouring in. Right here we have got three ce 130s on the route from australia, new zealand and the u. S. Helicopter flights are coming in, flying in and out from america. Warships offshore, the u. S. S. George washington off sure. Hundreds of people are here at the shattered airport coming in from villages all around. Theyll be evacuated to tacloban, cebu and some to manila. This region is uterly devastated. We spent the day in this area nothing is left standing. All the people looking for some place to go. Skpl fiand filipinos in jap to bring back financial assistance. Workers at the Fukushima Daiichi have started a delicate operation. Theyre removing fuel rods at a building at Fukushima Daiichi. Its the first step in whats expected to be a decadeslong process to decommission the facility. Tokyo electric Power Company workers have to remove the more than 1500 fuel rod assemblies from the reactor 4 building. The rods are currently stored in a pool. Most of them are used, extremely hot and highly radioactive. The march 2011 earthquake and tsunami triggered a Hydrogen Explosion that damaged the reactor 4 building. Workers will use a crane attached to a specially built structure to remove the rods. Tepco Officials Say it will take more than a year to complete the operation. The workers will then have to remove fuel rods from three other reactor buildings. Residents of fukushima have mixed feelings about the fuel rod removal. The project is a positive step in decommissioning the process, but
