NEC Corporation India announced the completion of its flagship optical submarine cable system between Chennai and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands (A&N Islands) for state-owned Indian operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
In a statement, NEC Aalok Kumar, NEC Corporation India president, and CEO said, the completion of the project marked a “major milestone” in the partnership between NEC and the Indian government, to realise their vision of a truly connected India.“ We are hopeful that the internet connectivity will open a wide range of opportunities for the people on the islands”, added Kumar.
The cable system spans approximately 2,300km, with 100gb/s optical waves, connecting Chennai to Port Blair and the islands of Havelock, Little Andaman (Hutbay), Car Nicobar, Kamorta, the Great Nicobar Islands, Long Island, and Rangat.
